WHAT WE DO

Storm Damage Restoration in Omaha, Lincoln & Council Bluffs

Eastern Nebraska and western Iowa get a bit of everything: hail most summers, straight-line winds that drop trees onto roofs, tornadoes, ice storms, and spring rain that floods basements. The region has seen how bad it can get. In March 2019, Missouri River flooding put a large part of Offutt Air Force Base in Bellevue under water, and in April 2024 a tornado tore through homes in Elkhorn and Bennington on the northwest side of the metro. Most storm calls are smaller than that, but the first steps are the same: secure the building, stop water from getting in, and document everything for insurance.

Our crews respond 24/7 from South 22nd Street in Omaha and North 33rd Street in Lincoln. Call (402) 543-3701.

Types of storm damage we handle

  • Hail damage. Broken shingles, cracked skylights, shattered windows, and dented siding. Hail damage often looks minor from the ground, but cracked shingles let water into the attic with the next rain.
  • Wind damage. Torn-off shingles and siding, damaged soffits and fascia, and trees or limbs on the house.
  • Roof leaks and ceiling damage. Rain that gets in through storm openings soaks attic insulation and ceiling drywall, and it can travel down wall cavities to lower floors.
  • Basement flooding. Heavy rain overwhelms gutters, window wells, and sump pumps, especially when the ground is already saturated.
  • Ice dams and winter storms. Ice builds up at the roof edge, and meltwater backs up under shingles into ceilings and walls.

What we do after a storm

1. Secure the property. Emergency roof tarping, board-up of broken windows and doors, and safe removal of debris from the structure. This is the emergency mitigation stage, and it should happen before the next round of rain.

2. Water removal and drying. If water got inside, we extract it and set up drying equipment the same day, then check moisture daily. Wet attic insulation and ceiling drywall usually need to come out.

3. Damage assessment and documentation. We photograph roof, siding, window, and interior damage, take moisture readings, and put together an itemized scope your insurance adjuster can work from.

4. Repairs. Interior repairs such as drywall, insulation, flooring, and paint once everything is dry, so the job is finished, not just cleaned up.

Storm safety first

  • Stay away from downed power lines and report them to OPPD in Omaha, Lincoln Electric System in Lincoln, or MidAmerican Energy in Council Bluffs.
  • Do not go into a flooded basement if the power is on or you smell gas.
  • Do not climb onto a damaged roof. A tarp installed in the wrong spot can make things worse, and falls are a real risk.
  • Photograph the damage before cleanup, including hailstones next to a coin or ruler for scale if you can.

Watch out for storm chasers

After big hail and wind events, out-of-town contractors often go door to door across the metro. Before signing anything, ask for a local address, proof of insurance, and references, and do not sign a contract that assigns your insurance benefits to someone you just met. The Nebraska Department of Insurance publishes guidance for homeowners after severe storms that is worth reading.

Storm damage and insurance

Wind and hail damage is generally covered by standard homeowners policies, often with a separate wind and hail deductible, which in Nebraska may be a percentage of your dwelling coverage rather than a flat amount. Damage from rising floodwater is not covered without a separate flood policy. Report the claim promptly; many policies set deadlines for filing hail and wind claims. Our insurance claims page explains how we help.

Storm damage FAQs

How quickly can you tarp a roof?
Tarping is treated as an emergency. Call as soon as it is safe and we will give you a realistic arrival time based on where you are and how many calls are coming in after the storm.

A tree fell on my house. Who removes it?
We can coordinate tree removal from the structure along with tarping and board-up so the building is secured in one visit.

My basement flooded during a storm. Is that storm damage?
It depends on how the water got in. Water through a damaged roof or window is usually treated differently than groundwater or a sewer backup. See our water damage restoration and sewage cleanup pages.

Which areas do you cover after storms?
Omaha, Lincoln, Council Bluffs, and nearby communities. See our service areas.
